Hall Of Fame Driver Shirley Muldowney To Appear At 35th Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show.

Monticello, Iowa -- The 35th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show will be highlighted by the appearance of Shirley Muldowney, the three-time NHRA Top Fuel World Champion. Ms. Muldowney, one of the most popular drivers in the sport of drag racing retired from active driving last year after spending three decades behind the wheel of her familiar pink Top Fuel dragster. Ms. Muldowney, who won 18 NHRA national events and went to twenty-seven final rounds during her career was the first woman ever to win an NHRA race in a Top Fuel dragster and remains the only woman ever to win the season-long championship in the sport’s premier category. In 2001 she was named the #5 driver on NHRA’s all-time list and, as a tribute to her great career, she will be inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame later this year. Shirley Muldowney will appear at the show both days and will be available for pictures and autographs. Shirley’s career was featured in the movie “Heart Like A Wheel” which starred Bonnie Bedelia and Beau Bridges.

In addition to Ms. Muldowney’s appearance the show will also feature a spectacular display of vehicles including street rods, custom cars, street machines, race cars, trucks, motorcycles and more. All of the vehicles will be competing for prizes which include the Hardee’s cash awards and the popular Budweiser trophies. Another highlight of the show will be the 19th annual model car contest which has become one of the featured attractions of the event.

The 35th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show is presented by KCRG TV9 and will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 28th and 29th, 2004. Show hours are noon to midnight on Saturday and 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. on Sunday and will be held at the Monticello Berndes Center (formerly the Youth Center Building) in Monticello, Iowa. Having been held every year since 1970 the show is one of the longest running shows of its type in Iowa.
